August is beginning to slip away and with it, the height of summer. Here on the farm, the meadows have been cut and the fodder stored for the colder months ahead. There’s a softness to this time of year: a slowing down, a shift in the light, and a sense that nature is gently preparing to turn inward.

As I embark on Craft Month, I am reminded of the winding road that has led me to where I am today - passionate and driven by a desire to share my love for skincare with the world. It's a celebration of creativity and self-care, where my passions come together in perfect harmony. The journey has been filled with ups and downs, twists and turns, but it's been worth it to get to this point.

Our farm is situated within a designated Special Area of Conservation (SAC), recognised for its unique limestone habitats and biodiversity. The land around Lough Carra is a haven for native wildflowers. Over 400 species of higher plants have been recorded here, making it one of the richest botanical areas in the country. The limestone grasslands and pavement create the perfect conditions for a rich variety of flora to thrive.

The summer solstice, which falls around June 21st, marks the longest day and shortest night of the year in the Northern Hemisphere. It's a celebration of light, abundance, and the peak of summer energy — a natural invitation to slow down, soak up the sun, and reconnect with nature's rhythm.

With the long, light-filled days of summer often feeling nonstop, I’ve been gently reminding myself to slow down and carve out little pockets of calm. Last night, I did just that with a soothing soak in the bath. While the water ran, I took a few mindful minutes to exfoliate—buffing in gentle, upward circles to boost circulation and refresh sun-kissed skin. Then I dropped a few bath bombs into the tub and let the soft fizz and summer scents melt the day away. Pure peace.

The hawthorn is in full bloom in the hedgerows around our farm and studio, its creamy blossoms a sure sign that summer is just around the corner. In our garden, pollinator-friendly flowers like borage and calendula are bursting into life.
