Lough Carra
Our farm lies on the shores of Lough Carra in County Mayo. It’s a place I’ve known all my life, but it feels different when you live and work here every day.
You begin to notice things more clearly. The steadiness of the water. The clarity that comes from the limestone beneath it. The quietness, especially in the evenings.
It’s often described as one of the largest marl lakes in Europe, but to me it’s simply part of the landscape I grew up in. Living alongside it, you become very aware that it doesn’t take much to affect it. That awareness has always been part of how I work.
When I first started making my own products, it was important to me to create natural skincare that felt good on the skin, while also being gentle on the environment it returns to. That has never been an afterthought. It has always been part of the foundation of Hawthorn.
Because it doesn’t stop with us. What we use on our skin is washed away. It moves through the land and into the water. And in places like Lough Carra, that matters.
Our farm is part of the CARA LIFE Project, which focuses on protecting and improving the water quality of the lake. Being part of that brings a deeper level of awareness to everyday decisions. You start to look more closely at what you’re using, what you’re making, and what happens afterwards.
That’s what Hawthorn is built on.
Every product is formulated with carefully selected plant oils and botanical extracts. Nothing unnecessary. Nothing added for effect. Just ingredients chosen to support the skin and sit more comfortably within the environment they return to. It’s a straightforward approach, but it’s one I believe in.
That same thinking runs through all of our products, including our Hand + Body Wash. Gently cleansing, this natural body wash is made from 100% natural ingredients and is free from foaming agents and detergents such as SLS. It is designed to cleanse the skin without stripping it, while remaining mindful of what is washed away afterwards.
